Volunteer Shifts
Fill every volunteer shift and replace cancellations in time.
Volunteer Shifts keeps a roster of volunteers, the shifts you need covered and who signed up for each. Shifts still open two days before their date are set to understaffed, which asks the coordinator to recruit, and cancelled sign-ups ask the coordinator to find a replacement.

Volunteer Shifts assistant reads your records when you ask, cites the rows it relies on and suggests next steps. It never changes data.

Who it is for
For food banks, charities and community groups that run regular volunteer shifts and want one shared rota instead of group chats and spreadsheets.

What it does not do
The package does not send emails or messages for you. Volunteers cannot sign themselves up, and confirmed counts are entered by people rather than counted from sign-ups. The assistant reads records and cannot change them.
Getting started
After installing, these steps take you from example data to your own.
- After installation, replace the example volunteers and shift with your own, and set the team timezone used by the understaffed automation.
- Create shifts with the number of volunteers needed. Set a shift to full once it is covered.
- Record sign-ups against each shift. Cancelled sign-ups ask the coordinator to find a replacement.
- Start the review workflow to ask the read-only assistant which shifts have gaps and who could fill them.
Common questions
Do I need to set shifts to full myself?
Yes. Only open shifts are flagged as understaffed, so set a shift to full once enough volunteers have confirmed.
Does the assistant contact volunteers?
No. It reads the package tables, cites the rows behind each finding and marks unknowns. The coordinator decides who to contact and makes any record changes.
